1st modification
Okie Dokie! I just ordered a 3" down pipe and and a test pipe. This is my 1st mod on this vehicle (97 7.3l). The pieces come with directions and I also have directions from Bazz's site. Is there anything else I should know before I dive in? I was planning on doing this in the driveway (in the rain). Any input would be helpfull. Would you all agree the exahust is the place to start when doing mods?
Next I was going to mod the air intake. While I am saving for this, I took off that piece that "funnels" the air to the filter, should I do that or not?
Would you all agree the air should be done after the exaust?
What is the less expensive air intake mod I can do? AND where could I find it?

First mods you need are gages IMHO. But you'll be OK with the exh and intake cuz what you're doing is not going to hurt anything. The gages should be next tho, boost, EGT, Tranny temp if you have an automatic. BTW: Fill in your sig so others here can see the your info to speed the process along. Click USer CP top left corner of this forum.
Search this site for kwik filter for your intake mod, cheap & easy. LEave the "funnel" in place, even after you do the kwik mod. It helps direct cooler air to the intake.
You need to cut the head off the DP before installing the new one. Real PITA, can't be done with a torch. I used a sawzall with good blades. That stuff is made out of kryptonite.
On Edit: Remove the MAP sensor on the firewall. This will give you a better angle when cutting off the head. You don't want to damage it either.

Make sure when you drop in the new pipe that it does not touch the body of the truck. it makes the cab really loud and anoying. gauges would be the next thing i think you should get. even though i dont think you need them unless your truck is chipped IMO but they look cool and they tell you whats going on with the engine.

PO MAN's air intake
I will be SURE that the DP does NOT touch anything but the clamps, Thank you all!
I installed a PO MAN's air intake today. I got a K&N filter from Advanced Auto (old Trash Auto) $60 and a coffee can. I took off the top of the old housing took out the filter and long screws. I then jammed the coffee can in the sleeve and jammed the filter on the can and layed it in the bottom of the filter housing (seems fairly secure) and left the air "funnel" on. It sounds good! Is there a problem with the way I did this? What are some things I should look for in the imedaite and long term?
Also I see a rubber? hose comming from the valve cover to the air intake hose. What is it? What does it do? More importantly, do I have to perform maintenance on it?

that would be your ccv. i dont know what it stands for but it just reuses some exhaust gases, as far as i know. thats why if you noticed any black oil in the intake pipes, thats what it was from.

CCV = Crankcase ventilation. Remove the tube from the intake side and buy a 1" hose route it down the frame. Also, my pipe rattles like a b from the middle clamp being loose. Make sure you tighten everything instead of letting it go cuz its really, really annoying.

OK, I called in slick yesterday (government workers, I tell ya) I took out the old DP and installed new one no problem. However I cant get the cat out to save my life! I have beaten a hole in it tryen. I used map/oxygen set no help. I have a bigger Oxy/accet at work, will that work better? Any other ideas besides diving 30 miles to get the job done? I was thinking about cutting the cat and trying to chisle out the inside but I do that and I can't get it the I will have nothing to beat on. Any suggestions?
