I got a 1996 3/4 ton powerstoke 4x4 and have a few questions bout the coolant. I changed my coolant the other night and replaced it with john deere coolgard heavy duty summer pre-mix. the bs on the label says it protects against liner cavitation, low silicate formulation and meets ASTM D 4895 specs, freeze protection down to -37C. Then I got reading on here about this additive so I went to the stealership and the gave me the one bottle that they had of diese additive (told me they don't sell very many) which is called Motocraft dieselCooling system additive, meets ford specs of ESN M99B169-A. Is this the right stuff? The guy I talked to seems like quite a pud . Anyhew do I still put this in if the coolant already says it protects against cavitation and how much should I put in? Thanks.
there is two kinds of coolant for diesels
one that requires the fw-15
and the extended life coolant that doesnt require it. not sure what you got i am sure someone can decipher it for you.
D4985 is a correct heavy duty spec coolant, but it does need the additive. If you did a complete flush you'll need a at least one more pint....probably two more.
The heavy duty coolants that require no additives will meet ASTM D6210
