I have a 96' F-250 SC 7.3 PSD 5 spd I getting the P-1211 code I just changed the IPR sensor so I think it is the HPOP itself. My question is How do I check if it is bad ?? Just put a pressure guage on it??? if so how?? ( just "t" off the IPR hole with a mechanical guage??? It is very high pressure are there good guages for this?? Second question If it is bad can it be rebuilt or do I just have to go to the stealership and hand over 500.00 for a new one
It's not too hard to change. A chilton manual should tell you how to do it. If I remember right getting the fuel filter housing out of the way is the hardest part, but it has been about a year since I've had to change on on a 7.3
I was looking at the oil feed lnes to put the guage on are you talking about the ones with 90 degree elbow??? Mine look like steelbraided hose I was not going to cut into those.

DONT CUT THE HOSE. You cant get a splice to repair it that will hold up to the pressure. I unscrew the hose from the fitting in the head and put a hydraulic T fitting in there and hook the hose back up. Then screw the gauge onto that T. I hope that makes sense.
I think I managed to fix the problem after talking with diesel mechanic at the ford dearlership I was explaing my problem with the code I was getting and the problems that happing like MIL coming on under load ( going uphill and lugging motor) MIL would come on and get the P1211 code and The mechanic said it is due to low oil pressure , reserve, sensor OR FUEL SUPPLY problem because it tells the computer to try and compesate for the low fuel supply and max out injecter pressure this will trigger the same code and would you know it the fuel filter was really dirty but no idiot like came on for it. Changed filter and have not have the problem since. I had already purchased new HPOP to put in. Thats going back to dealership ASAP.
