I was going to me truck and notice a puddle of fuel under the front left side of the truck. There is also some fuel in the valley pan of the engine but could not see where it would be leaking from. it is not a big leak, just some small puddles about a silver dollar. Any ideas? 1999.5 F250 PSD.
Bob.
Check the fuel line attached to the right rear head. It passes through a clamp midway down the head. On my unit the clamp rubbed through the steel line. $60 at the Ford Store. The other place to look is the drain valve for the fuel filter. See the other posts for the info
Well, I took the truck to get the leak repaired and the dealer said it was the fuel filter valve was cracked. The repair cost is about 350.00 to 400.00. Does that sound about right?
Bob.
ouch!!!!!! i heard the drain valve assembly is aroung 75-100 and not to bad to change it. 4 torx 20 screws holding it on the back of the filter housing. most leak because of the orings going bad. blackcloud(i think they changed their name though) had the orings for 10 bucks. mine is leaking also. been leaking for a year. never has gotten any worse. my 2000 has 206,000 miles.
Just had mine done yesterday, o ring kit at Ford 31.95, plus a fuel filter instaled $110. total. job was pretty simple. I was leaking for about 8 mo. then al of a sudden whoosh, pouring out like crazy.
I just got the bill. 621.17.
This also included 2 new batteries and a full checkout. Man does it start fast, it still had the original batteries. Not to bad for a 99.5. Oh well at least it is fixed and has a warranty on the work. The labor is what kills you in the dealer shop.
You are right, the labor cost will kill you at the stealer.
About $10 for the o-rings and $80 for the whole valve assembly. 1 hour tops to change the whole works and they quoted $350-400. I saw your final gunfighter. I guess it's great to have new batteries but I could do that R&R on the entire valve in about 20 minutes in my driveway. That includes time to get out the tools and fill up the bowl again.
My point is OUCH. Hopefully this will help others decide what they want to do when this happens to them
