has anyone put disc brakes on the front of there truck and kept them manual? i am putting a 71 lincoln front clip under my 68 f-100 2wd... i think i can use my master cylinder if i put a proportioning valve in the front brake line...the front brakeson the lincoln are disk. i want to keep the brakes manual and the steering manual.
I would use an adjustable proportioning valve. They usually work on the rear brakes, and reduce the pressure in relation to the front brake line pressure.
Both MCs use a 1" bore, so similar amounts of fluid and pressure, BUT disk brakes really work better as power brakes. Disks actually have less stopping power than drums, given equal line pressures. Their advantage comes from reduced fade, more consistant application, easier inspection, and easier repair.
They will work, and the truck will stop. Most base models 73+ had manual disk brakes, but their stopping power was lackluster at best. All I am saying is to use caution, and you really would be best off upgrading to power brakes at the same time.
