I like some of them but not all. On my 48 the F O R D letters on the upper grille were in poor shape so I eliminated them and filled in the holes, but I spent $90 to have my F-3 emblems rechromed since I could not find repros. Go figure...
I prefer the emblems as well, in fact I did a lot of searching to find a set in decent shape to get polished up and painted. Even though I've heavily modified the body and frame (making an extended cab for those who don't know already), I want it to still look stock from the outside.
I guess I'm a bit old fashioned. I don't go for the shaved look. I do appreciate it and have seen some fine examples of it but I like chrome, and lots of it. For my stuff, I want emblems, etc. Some of my favorite cars are 1958 Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Pontiacs.....those babies had some chrome!
I have added a few extra chrome emblems and accents on my truck. On my hood sides behind the hood spears I attached a small emblem on each side that I had pirated from a 63 Ford Galaxie 500. Its a small emblem with 500 on it (I figured since I had 500 cubic inches it was appropriate). I also added 2 chrome spears on each door that I pirated from the front fenders of a 63 or 64 Mercury fender.
I kind of like the emblems and chrome that came with the trucks. These Mercs, are kind of unique and should in my opinion be kept that way. Again thats my opinion, only thoughts. I used to own this one a few years back, and brought it to this stage, and its not a frame off, just cosmetics it was that good, a rare find.
Anyone that may be interested in one take a look at my gallery.
My latest is low and shaved (?), I will probably run the stock 56 front but not the side pieces. The jury is still out on the door handles. Difficult decision.
I want my panel to be mistaken for stock with a custom paint job from the outside so I'll be retaining all the emblems and handles on the outside. I have secured all brand new versions of each. Besides I'm not one to do whatever's "the norm/expected".
That was the exact color scheme of that truck. When I first got the truck the color was a faded chalk, and i was going to repaint it the Dark Green. Then I removed the hood Badge and the paint was brand new under that.
I took some wax and polished it up stood back and gave some thought into whether or not to go with the same color.
As you can see I did am sure am glad I made that choice. It was a landmark around the town where I live, for quite awhile.
I believe that the color is either Seafoam, or Meadow Green, can't quite remember. I will tell you one thing, and not because I owned one but these Mercs, sure are pretty when in the right color scheme.

I got no quarrel with that. The truck is both striking and elegant. (I'm getting some great ideas for when I start thinking about paint!)
You know my truck has no emblems, door handles, primered grill, plywood bed floor, quite low and it's still registered as a truck and looks like one. Imagine that.
I vote to leave them on if thats what you want, or do whatever makes you happy.
