Hello I'm new to the board. I have a 1966 Ford F-100 2wd. It currently has a 351 windsor out of a 1978 ford LTD in it and an automatic Ford FMX tranny out of the LTD. It has a stock 2 barrel motorcraft carbrator on it. My problem is the windsor is starting to smoke and I think it needs rings. I am trying to decide to rering that or get another motor and stick in it. Also would it be wise to bore out the windsor? I am looking for torque something that will burn the tires I'm not too worried about top end speed. Does anyone have any ideas for a motor and cam and carbrator? Any help would be greatly appricated
David
David, absolutly rebuild the 351W, and if it aint melting your tires fast enough just change the rear gear.
BTW Is your tranny cast iron and in three pieces (bell, tranny, tail). I suspect that you might have a C6 instead of a FMX. The C6 is a one piece alu case tranny plus tail.

In the cool still quite of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
Thanks for the info, no I am quite sure it is a FMX though...what grearing do you suggest I put in it? Another choice I have is that I have a 289 motor but it needs overhauled as well would it be better than the 351? Also I have a motorcraft carb on it now with the manual choke and it floods out all the time! Would I be better off with an automatic choke? Thanks David
66blue, the 351W is much better than the 289 in a truck. The extra stroke will really help you pull away from a stop. As for gears how about a 3.5 ? Good all around gear and easy to find a set. As for the choke, manual is always better. Just remember to push the **** back in after you start. :-) DF
