Hi Guys, On My 95 F-150 The Tranny Does Not Shift Smoothly, Also When You First Start It Up And The Rpm's Are Still A Little High It Hits Hard Into Reverse. Changed It At 54,000 Now Has 85,000. Been Reading About Royal Purple Products. Anyone Tried This Tranny Fluid?? Thanks Fanblade//////////////////////////////////////////////
Royal Purple makes a bunch of different things. I think they started with high-interval oil (~15,000miles between changes), and have since developed other products.
To answer the original question, their products are better than most, but they will not magically fix a tranny issue. The first step would be to do a fluid flush and filter change.
In 1995, the AOD was electronic, so I don't think there was a TV cable to worry about like in the earlier non-electronic AOD.
The way I do it is I remove the trans fluid return line and attach a 8-10 ft length of clear plastic tubing (from Home Depot) to it. Then run the other end into a bucket. Before all this be sure to drain the pan, r/r the filter and gasket, put pan back on and fill pan with clean fluid. Then start the truck and let the trans pump itself clean. As old fluid is pumped out of the trans and into the bucket just pour in a quart of clean stuff when about a quart has come out. When clean stuff starts to come out (you can tell by the color), stop, remove the plastic tubing and re-attach the return line. Then just get your fluid level right and all should be well.
