I now know why my"breather tube" spills. The gas recirculation system is removed and I need some help iding some basic facts. I believe the tube was part of the EGR system but has been left for a vent on one of the tanks.
I am asking for the basic setup for the egr system. I know my diagram is under the hood. Is the basic including a tube from the tank to the perhaps a canister or other check valve. I think this truck, which has a 351W over 20 on the piston rebuilt 40K ago, needs that system back on. Any help or basic fact about this emissions would be appreciated.
Bunch of different systems going on here-
EGR is exhaust Gas Recirculation, and deals solely with introducing a metered amount of exhaust gases (fumes) into the intake as an inert gas to cool the combustion chamber peak temperatures, to prevent pinging and the formation of NOx.
The Vapor Recovery System has a small line that comes from the top of the gas tank, and runs to the charcoal canister, located on the frame rail in the front right area of the engine compartment (not positive about that on vans, but that's where it is on trucks). If the charcoal canister was removed, and the line left open, there is a very real chance that raw gas can come out of the hose.
Is this something that only happens when the tank is full, or over half full, or does it happen all the time?
i have a two tank system and using the secondary tank takes the gas out of both tanks without switching, it reoccurs frequently and today I smelled the large odor of and the tanks was not half full.
