I have a strange problem. After driveing on the freeway when my truck comes down to an idle the engine rpm moves up and down from 400 rpm to 850 rpm. It just started a couple of days ago. It is not all the time, just once an a while, but it seems to be getting worse. Other than that the truck seems to run ok, and when this happends the truck never dies. Any ideas? Thanks!!
Perform the following preliminary checks:
Check engine oil level
Confirm oil change within 8046.5 km (5000 miles) (5632.6 km [3500 miles] if severe duty)
Check Air Filter Minder
Confirm acceptable SAE oil viscosity and API rating of oil. Refer to operator's guide.
Check fuel quality.
Several other things to check but start with the free ones
whenever troubleshooting a problem, ALWAYS check oil level and coolant level before starting. make sure the oil level is good, especially on powerstrokes, as engine oil is used to power the injectors. when you are low on oil or have really old oil, the engine will not run right or at all. how many miles is on the oil?
Ditto on strokin and miller's posts oil is vital in your stroker. Also if the oil seems to be ok try setting your chip to the stock setting and/or remove it to eliminate the possibility that the chip is causing the rough idle
