OK guys, I'm driving down the road and notice my wait to start light(the little squiggly) is on. I also noticed my odometer is blank(no milage reading). Then it goes out and my odometer re-appears.
So I start paying more attention, I hear a couple of clicks under the dash and the wait to start squiggly comes on again along with the 4x4 light and the wipers come on by themselves. The wipers only move about 4 inches and then stop, I turn the wiper **** on and it does'nt work. The 4x4 light goes out very quickly and then the squiggly goes out. But the wipers still do not work. I pull up at the house and suddenly the wipers start to work with the ****.
I've used the search funtion and could not find any info on this. Has anyone seen or heard of this?
i remember something about the gem module going bad and all kinds of strange thngs happening like that but im not sure what it all controls. maybe someone else can help you out more.
Now that's a strange bunch of problems to have. WTS while driving and wipers coming on by themselves? Unfortunately, I have no idea what this may be, but I'm definately staying tuned to see what develops.
we have just started doing wiring diagrams in school, and we have diagrams for 98-99 powerstroke engines. my teacher is getting a 2002 powerstroke diagram for me to have, let me look at it when i get it and see if there is any correlation...
you probably have a power wire to all of the idiot lights shorted out somewhere, and they probably can be fixed at once ultimately.
I don't think I would use the truck if it were mine with all that strange stuff going on and no fuse's blowing. Burning very hard to replace harness's could result. I'd unhook the batteries till someone cyphers this for you.
Check your grounds at the batteries and frame/engine. It is odd because I thought the wipers were wired direct. I would start it, and shake the wire looms under the dash and hood. Have someone watch the WTS light while your doing that. Was it raining when this happened? The Haynes manual has got wiring diagrams in the back.
Is your alternator output sufficient? Low voltage could cause problems. Good Luck.
Thanks guys, I'm going to tincker with it today. I look foward to hearing what you find Kris. Alan, I'll check the battery and connections they are only a year old.
I've learned from experience that low voltage can cause some wierd problems (as in my radio) and the truck will still start. But man you got a lot of strange things going on all at once. Have fun and good hunting.
Ok, between unhooking the negative cables on both batteries for 30 minutes(to reset the system), cleaning the terminals and reconnecting, all is well. I've driven it on and off all day long and the problem seems to have subsided. Hopefully, it was just a glitch, we'll see. Thanks to all for the advice.
