I got a 460 free with a truck i bought, it was in the back well i pulled the heads off and most the cylinders have rust in them and one is cracked, can you resleave a 460?
Sure you can, but why bother? The 460 block was relatively unchanged for stock purposes for most of it's production life. With gas prices the way they are, you can probably get a good engine - maybe even an entire truck - for a whole lot less than the cost of sleeving.
around here sleeving cost about $100 per hole, and it not only can be done it is done quit often but banjopicker is right the blocks are pretty plentiful still unless you have something like a CJ or Boss block with 4 bolt mains, then thats another story.
i will keep on the lookout around here, but im in alaska unfortunatly i dont think they are as pleantyful. the junk yard wants 325 for one with low compression in some of the cylinders
Ok now that might make a difference, like I said the machine shop around here wants $100 to install a sleeve and yes a sleeve will work just fine, I have seen some blocks with upto 4 sleeves in them used in race engines.
It is very likley that there are more cracks in this block. I would not bother with it. You can buy a nice 514 from one of the vendors here or off the web. Add some head work and have a really good engine without much hassel. Sleeving is an option only if you know how the cylinder cracked and have a history on the block. IMHO!
