Mirror off

I'm not real impressed with the search feature here.
Maybe because I didn't use it right.

But...... I am replacing the driver door mirror. It should be here in a couple days. Somebody step me through it. I see the black plastic piece on the inside of the door that pops off to get at the bolts. Is there only 3 bolts? It can't be that simple? Do you have to take the door panel off to get to a 4th or/and 5th bolt?

If some idiot hadn't use an ice scraper on the glass portion I
wouldn't have to deal with this. Why are some people so stupid?

The door panel comes off pretty easy too. You can pop up the lock and window controls, and pull off the reflector at the bottom of the door and you can take the bolts out. Then you need to gently start at the bottom of the door and start pullin out to get the plastic rivits to pop. When you make it to the top of the door, you can pull the entire door panel up towards the window and it will come off. I was asuming you already had the plastic piece off by the mirror and that you would know to unplug the window / lock controls when you pull it off. :-)
Hve fun!!

Exclamation door panel removal procedure

whoa stop right there!!!!! door panel removal as follows: remove the cover that hides the 3 bolts for the mirror. then remove the window controls. there is 1 bolt that is there by those controls. then remove the red reflector at the bottom. there is another bolt there. then all you have to do is grab the door handle and lift up. thats it... do not pull outward!! dont forget to remove the plug for the light at the bottom.

Now that I see someone say that I remember that you don't pull those out, just up. The barn doors are the ones with the plastic rivits. Racerx7775 is right about that one!!! :-) Sorry, for all the times that I have removed the panels in the truck you would think I would put the right one down. Don't worry, I'll let my wife spank me!!! J/K

You wouldn't happen to know how to remove the turn signal lense on the mirror, would you? Figured I'd ask since I need to remove mine and haven't any luck searching, and I don't wanna make an expensive mistake. Thanks!

Not really.

But, I would imagine you have to pop the glass (mirror) out to gain access to the lense fasteners though.

Somebody will chime in soon.

Just to be on the safe side, and not break any prongs or fasteners...... does the power window control unit simply pop up and come out easily?

yes, grab it from the forward side and lift up. there is a little tab where it meets the panel on the rear of the controls. you should have the panel off in about 1 minute or less.

Hey guys, is this page what I need to read to swap my regular mirrors with the tow mirrors for my 2005 limited v10?

My buddy just got a 2004 limited diesel and we're swapping mirrors.

..and don't forget to sign up for the Excursion meet this fall..

Thanks

george, yup, when you start to unbolt the mirrors, have someone hold the mirror so it doesnt hit the door. then lift the mirror off. dont forget to unplug it.. im not sure what you have for wiring. if you had the paddle mirrors with power, heat and signals, just plug it right in. the marker light, you will have to either run a wire to the inside or, what i did. and that was to tap into the window switch lighting. i think it was either a yellow or a blue wire at the switch harness. the only thing with that is my mirror marker lights come on all the time the ignition is on. no biggie. then the will stay on just like the radio stays on until you open the door. i love it that way. and no other wiring.

Hey, just a little extra hint that might save you some extra time. First of all, make sure that the windows are up so you can get to the power connector(s) inside the door. Also, there are 1 or 2 bolts hiding behind the sticky foam sheet that is covered by the black piece of plastic that hold the mirror on. If the mirror doesn't come out easily, you might have missed a bolt.

Hope that helps! so who was silly enough to WANT the little mirrors? haha jkjk usually, everyone wants the tow mirrors

Boys, I don't suppose I can get one of you guys to copy and paste ALL the instructions and info in ORDER in ONE file so to speak? I'm REALLY bad with reading instructions and although my buddy is the handy one, being a good ol' country boy, I'm not sure how good he is at instructions either.

I kinda had to hold his hand yesterday when he bought the truck or the salesman would have TOTALLY walked all over him.

I still think he could have gotten a little better deal but HE is happy and the truck is nice so that's all that counts.

As for WHO wants the small mirrors, HE does and I'm THRILLED! I've been wanting the big ones since i bought mine but didn't have the money to spend on them and guess what, now I don't have to

Racer, I DO have the regular ones with heat and signals..

Thanks guys

George
