I don't want to fly under false colors here, nor to appear stupid to the other users, but just what is a mud bog? I intend to write an article on the Sept 30 one - but I have never attend such a race. (If it is a race!)
I have used 4wd, but only as an aid to get from point A to point B. I have seen some rock crawlers and watched a show on clubs using trails, but have never attended one of those events.
Has anyone ever been to a 4wd event, and most specially a Mud Bog? How would you describe it, are there different classes? What are the rules -
There are different STYLES of mud bogging. Most are lifted 4x4 vehicles w/ fat tires and big engines. These race drad-strip style down thick mud. Some are lifted w/ big engines and tall SKINNY front tires w/ BIG/FAT sand tires. These race in an oval "track" with 2-3 feet of water, some of these have a body that looks more like a boat - to deflect water. Most all of them have snorkles and raised exhausts. The best place to watch is about mid-track and in the front row. ENJOY !!
I'll see if I can get my son to answer this one. It is a particularly popular sport in the midwest and south. He's from Iowa. You might want to check out these pics.
Ever watch a bunch of school kids walk to school when there is a puddle? The girls all daintily walk around, while the guys tromp up through the middle, often trying to splash each other and the girls!
Hey OldDog,
That's not your son's Highboy in that link/photo library is it? I didn't see the brush guard mounted that I donated to his project truck...
Where you guys been? Haven't seen you and your son on here for a while. Are you two going to Fallon for the mud bogs?
Willyb, yeah I think the stomping and splashing of the girls kind of took the place of that old custom of laying one's coat across a puddle for a lady. Sign of the times I tell ya.
Tina gets so mad when I splash her.
I'll take a good sense of humor over a muddy coat any day.
AnOldDog - GOOD pics !! Just me, I would put that in the general "Mudding" catagory. That's what most people do (cross-country). I have a couple friends that use conveyor belting <if it can be found] under/in front of the radiator to keep some of the goo from splashing w/ the fan. An easier to find material is the clear neoprene sheeting that gets used as windows for softop windows. This stuff comes in different thicknesses. The 1/8" works great for mud flaps too.
A couple of the local boys here were talking about starting one up in our area. I have a couple of trucks that might be suitable for just such an enterprise...(like I really need yet another project!)
Speaking of 4 wheelin.....
There's a few people in my area that's putting together an off road park at Hatfield state park. No idea where it's at? Well just 1 mile south of Hilmar is Williams AVE. Take it west a few miles(follow the signs). It's along the San Joaquin River, so maybe it'll have good bogs. It's in the build & design stage still. I'm not sure on the size, but I think they acquired more acreage for it. I found out while at a job in Hilmar, they wanted some old poles we were taking out for widening Hwy165 at Williams.
