I'm using a 56k right now. Can't really search at this point. So bear with me.
I'm in the market of a turbo diesel. But i can't really decide on which engine to go with, the 7.3 or the 6.0. I've driven both and fell in love.
I know that 6.0 tend to have lots of bugs, especially the earlier models, which i am in the market for. But that engine has so much power and i just love the 5 speed auto. So in my mind, it will get better gas mileage too. Gotta love that turbo whine also!
But the 7.3 is almost bulletproof. But don't have the nice turbo whine, the power and they have the 4 speed auto.
It's gonna be a daily driver so fuel economy is important. Try to squeeze as much as i can out of the truck. Also looking at 4x4 CC.
I just need peoples help. All of my friends are mixed too. So no help there. I'm turning to you guys. Thanks!
You are probably going to get mixed opinions here as well. Sorry. Some swear the 6.0 is the best and others swear the 7.3 is the best. Bottom line is it depends on you and what you like. Grab the new Diesel World and read the article on buying a used Diesel, even if you are looking to buying a new one there is still some good info, but even they are opinionated about which is the best only they go into Chevy and Dodge. I own a 99 7.3 PSD and have not have any problems with it. Performance mods are relatively easy to find, and it is pretty easy to work on. Regardless of your decision you will not be dissapointed with your choice and you will ask yourself why did I wait so long to get a diesel. Good luck
go with 7.3 unless you like unreliable truck's that break all the time. It's been proven the 6.0 is problematic. If I'm towing out in the middle of the dessert I want to be powerstrokin the 444.
I have 4 7.3s. They have very few problems. Usually just CPS. I need one more truck, and I am looking for another 7.3. I cannot afford to have a truck break down. Stick with what works. Just my opinion. There are some who will swear by their 6.0. Tough decision. Good luck with it.
I have a 1993 F250 Ext. Cab 7.3 Natural Aspiration with 560,000 miles, no major engine work and 1 transmission. Also have a 1997 7.3 PSD with 340,000 miles, Only 2 CPS, a power steering hose and a throttle position censor. Both have adequate power and still get it done, I cut hay all summer every year, and those two haul my Case MX 120's around field to field. Im gonna keep that old one and try to make 1,000,000 miles!!! Wife drives a 2006 F250 CC FX4 6.0 PSD with about 39,000 miles and not one hitch in it yet. Pulls the 28Ft 5th wheel with such Ease. I just don't know, Ford has been so good to me, I couldnt tell you which one to go with. Maybe what I've said might help you, I Hope So.
