Starting 6.9

I live in NC and this summer I have noticed starting (turn key and wait for start light to go out) that first thing in the morning the light does not stay on for very long and I may have to cycle key several times and get a light before motor will start. After driving to work or anytime later that day when I turn the key the light stays on the correct amount of time and motor starts fine. Any thoughts??
Relay problem??

could be the controller or simply corrosion on the connection lugs of the controller. Could also be some of the glow plugs in the cooler morning air acting up.

I have an 85 6.9, and I bypassed the controller and use a spring loaded off/on switch to control the glow plug system. There is a wiring diagram floating around in a past threads that show how to do it. Saves on glow plugs, by not using the system more than needed. Works for me and lots others on this list.
