I have a '94 f-150 with a 302. How would it sound if i cut off both cat's and ran a cherry bomb off each pipe with 2 1/4" pipes out the back? I want it to be fairly loud and a low rumble but not so loud that the cops are following me around.

I have a Ranger with a 5.0L Explorer motor in it with the dual cats out of the Explorer, with 3" tubing from the cats back with 2x aluminized glass packs and then the 4"x12" stainless tips straight out the back, it sounds really, really good. It definitely turns the heads, and as long as you aren't on it when you go past cops they don't even look at you. I'm happy with it, it gets good attention
That's the sound I'm after. what are some good cats at a resonable price? also what size should I use, and what size of pipe? the cherry bombs that I have are 28.5" with 2.5" inlet and outlets.
i did the same thing on my 96 f150 [302] ditched the cats, 2 1/4 inch pipe but i used 2 thirty four inch thrush glass packs, with 3 1/2 chrome tips sticking out the back.
that exhaust setup was louded then hell, sounded awsome under full throttle, real deep rumble and then it crackled for a few seconds before it shifted. i got tired of the drone at highway crusing speeds.
i replaced the glasspacks with a set of cherry bomb super turbos, they still sound wicked under full throttle, and best of all no drone. and i can crawl away from a stop sign making almost no noise at all.
just go the way I did Now really, with glass packs, that 302 will be really poppy and loud, its just the way that engine is. If you go with packs, get the longest possible ones you can.
On friday I took off my muffler and the second cat and put one of the cb's on to see what it would sound like. It sounds alot better but its not much louder.
I think I might get a couple of cats from the junk yard and hollow them out. Is this a good idea and is it possible to just hollow out part of them so its not so loud.
Do not hollow the cats out(bad for flow). Run the Cherrybombs with no cats and see what they sound like. Just make sure the shop leaves room to put the cats in.
