How to decode the VIN.

Can someone out there tell me how to decode the VIN on my truck. What I mean is a list of what the letters and the numbers mean.

Just post the info and I'll decode it for you

I have a page on my FTE web site that explains it but it doesn't cover all the 79 differences from the 78's and 77's.

OK, here's my VIN: F10GPED0189

There is very little info in the VIN#

F10= F100
G = Engine code = 302 2v
P = (Plant where truck built) = Twin Cities
ED0189 - (consecutive build number) = yours means January 1979

Ok, here's what else I got: Body-RF4. Trans-J. Axle-06X. Type/GVW-F101. Hope this helps.

R =Vinyl Bench seat (Explorer)
F = (colour interior) Cordovan
4 = Styleside box

Trans = {J ?} I think it should be X = C6

Axle - 06 {X ?} It think it should read 06 J

06 = 2.75 ratio (open diff)
J = power steering

F101 - (Body to GVWR code) = Pickup code 4800 lb
