Straight pipe?

I was talking to the muffler guy and he suggested maybe just cutting out the muffler and running a straight pipe. It's a new 06 f250. I don't really want to do much as far as exahust goes, just help open it up and flow better. The only other thing I want to do is probably a superchip for it. Does this sound like an ok idea or should I reconsider? Anyone else do this, and if so, what do you think? I appriciate everyones input, Thanks.

If you are going to add a superchip, then adding an exhaust will be a good thing. If you are driving very lightly and have a very responsible foot (no hot rodding around) then you could get away with stock exhaust. You see, the problem is heat. The superchip produces more heat in your engine by burning more fuel and pushing in more air with that fuel. This creates more/hotter exhaust. If you don't open up the exit for that exhaust, the heat will transfer to the enging and turbo, possible creating critical conditions. So, really its up to you. Many guys in here have a 4" turbo back setup, as do I. This is not really that expensive ($300-$500) and really can save your truck. You already paid 30 grand, whats 500 bucks to take care of that investment?

if these chips/tuners burn more fuel, then why are some people saying that with a chip or tuner and exhaust, they are getting better fuel mileage? just curious.
my truck is brand new and stock, but i do plan on making minor mods to it, for better performance, mainly better mileage or for towing power.

not trying to get off topic, just trying to learn a little more.
