My 2000 Navi steering wheel started to rock back and forth when going down bumpy roads at 15-50 mph. On the highway its fine at speeds up to 80+. I jacked up the Navi and checked to see if the ball joints are bad. About 9 months ago I had the lower ball joints replaced, and the sway bar fixed. The only play I got was the Idle Arm Damper was in pretty bad shape. I replaced the Idle Arm Damper and it cleared up a mojority of the shaking. I have Continental tires which I've heard were junk. Is there a way to check the steering gear box? Tie rod ends seem to be fine. Also too, does anyone have an opinion on what tires. I like Michelins, but don't want to pay a bunch>
Thanks!!!
I have a similar vibration or rocking in my steering (06 expy) when traveling at slow speeds on uneven or rough pavement. No problems at highway speeds. Crush, give us an update.
I changed out the Pitman arm. Pretty bad. 80 bucks at the dealership. Cheaper off of eBay. That helped some. I have a few other things loose. Tie rods, and such. But my steeping wheel is way too easy to turn. Thats more of a problem. I'm not sure if its the steering assist.
