I have removed my stock intake from my 82 f250 (400ci). I wanted to clean it and put a fresh coat of paint on it while it was off the engine. I broke the line that connects to the choke on the carb. It bolts onto the intake with 2 bolts. After breaking it, i took the bolts off and found that the line is coiled up in the AIR passage of the intake. What exactily is this part, and is there a replacement available? Sorry i'm not able to give a better description. I think if someone has seen the piece i'm talking about they will be able to recognise it by my description. Thanks in advance!!
That is the choke heater tube. Some dealerships still carry that part. Some parts stores have been known to have generic and cheesy repair kits. You can make your own replacement part with some steel tubing and a tubing bender. Silver solder the tubes to the plate or you will get an exhaust leak. Make sure you put the fiberglass insulating tube back on the part, it is an important part.
Well, nobody seems to have this part any longer. The dealer I went to said it was no longer made? The guy didn't seem too interested in helping me out. Is there any other source for this heater tube? None of the aftermarket places seem to have anything close either . I did come up with a motorcraft part number D5AZ-9C869-A. It hasn't helped much yet though. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I did not take it off the manifold, afraid i might break it also. It is off a 400, or so I thought it was. Turns out it's a 351m. I have the engine apart. The carb and most of the hardware are still attached to the intake. My project with this engine is a long way off. Money crunch.
