The mustang guys will have a wealth of info on it. I prefer modularfords for my power info, give them a look.

I also prefer the whipple lysholm style screw charger, but either way with an intercooler you'll make good power. A couple of things to consider, your truck is a 98 and I would guess 100K miles. You have alot of miles for that much boost, and probibly 9.0:1 compression. If you get serious about it, look into a forged crank and pistons, honing and a fresh set of rings and seals all around.

I put my Procharger on my 97 Expy when it had 100K miles.
I have well over 130K miles now, tow a 7,000 lb. boat regularly, and she runs great.
I do have the 5.4, not the 4.6.

I see 10.5 psi and have had zero problems. All cylinders have good compression.

I'd get a compression test, and if all is good then I wouldn't worry about it. These motors are pretty strong. I know several guys with high-mile, blown and turbocharged 4.6L F-150s. Be smart and make sure your tune is good.

Centrifugals are a bit easier on your engine, less boost at low RPM.

Easier to install, too. Depends really on your application... Pronstar likes his centrifugal because he pulls boats off of slick ramps - so no overbearing torque spinning him out.

Very true.
I my case, the strength of a roots/twin-screw (huge low-end torque) are disadvantages when confronted with a slick launch ramp.

Though 4.10 gears aren't helping me out either...LSD is your friend!

How much more power do you get and how much more fuel do you burn?

A bit of misinformation is being thrown about in this thread.

The 4.6L 2v bottom end is very weak when it comes to boost. You are dealing with a bomb waiting to happen if you have a stock bottom end.

The rods and rod bearings will let go.

Forged rods are a must if you want to get serious with boost. The crank is not the weak point.

Not true, with 6psi of boost, these engines will run a long time.

Heck, I knew a guy that put 60K on an expedition and ran 12lbs of boost. It was a heck of toy until it got off the highway. While true forged is suposed to be better for high boost motors, 4-6 psi should be fine on stock internals.

Any engine has the potential of blowing up on you... it's all in how you treat it.

If the bottom end was so weak, kits wouldn't have even been produced - many of these kits have install warranties if installed by a mechanic or shop who has a license/cert from the charger kit manufacturer.
