Hey everyone.
Pick em up needs some new sneakers. Im looking for something thats good in the summer, rain, snow and off road. Not concerned about road noise and should be decent milage. Interested in the firestone destination MT, anyone tried or heard of these? The truck is a 03 f150 4x4 xtr with 265 70r 17's would like to go bigger but how big, no body or suspension lift? What size would fit and be alright with stock gearing. Would post pics of her but it says im not allowed to post attacments!
i have bfg m/t's on my 88 they stink in the rain. all you got to do is look at the go pedal, and they are spinning. but they are fantastic everywhere else.
I had the same issue with a set of Cooper Discoverer STT's (the OLD style ones). Hard packed snow was the worst. A hard-azz tire with no siping on the huge tread blocks......I got stuck on LEVEL ground in 4 wheel drive (the street in front of my old house) 2 days after a snow (when it was nicely packed).
But to add some fuel to the discussion at hand:
Personally I like Cooper tires. Call me nuts but I do love the Discoverer S/T tires I have on my SD. They wear terrific, aren't really noisy, and do well in everything (snow if you have them siped). There is only one real disadvantage I can think of and that's extended gravel road usage.....they do like to chunk if abused on gravel.
I'd stick with the size you have or slightly narrower if available.
actually, i think it's more the truck and driver than the tires. i have not put it on the dyno with the C/6 yet, but with the 5 speed it was 325hp at the wheels. so i figure with the C/6 i am still looking at about 300hp at the wheels, so that, and my heavy right foot just may have allot to do with it.
I've seen Firstone Destonations M/Ts, and Dayton Timberline M/Ts, they are alot like BFG M/Ts, and all wear about the same on the road, with same off road performance, but the Daytons are the cheapest I've seen.
A while back I looked on Tire Rack for reviews on mud tires, because I needed some. Everybody said that the Firestones did really good, even in the rain. Also, you can count on Firestone to design a tire to do well in the rain, as it seems to be an obsession of theirs. Personally, I would go with them, not only because they look good, but one of the guys I go to school with had em on a newer Dodge 4x4, and said he really liked the hell out of them off road. I had some 32x11.50R15 Cooper Discoverer MTs on my 94 F-150 with stock suspension, 3.08 gears, and open diffs, and never got stuck, and some of the mud I was in was up to the fenderwells.
Thats good to hear, I think I am going to go with the firestones but undecided on size, stock or bigger. Anyone know what size fits with no rubbing issues?
285/75R17s would fit, but as far as I know they don't make 285s for the 17" rim, just 16s. They do have the 265/75R17s, and they wouldn't hurt your acceleration, b/c they'd be the same size as you have on.
Going to call the tire place today and order some bfg mud terrian T/a Kms in 285/70r/17, They will fit? I have done airbags and cranked torsion bars 2" since this started! edit my rims are 9" wide, There should be no rubbing with the new tires correct?
You can fit 285s stock, so with 2" of lift up front it is going to have even more room and look even better.
If you don't mind, how much are they going to cost you, could you get some pics when you get them on?
I have Firestone Destination M/T's on my truck. 285/75/16's. They are amazing while off-road, and do very well in the mud. I have sat my truck on the frame in a mudhole, and these tires pulled me right out. They are also very smooth, and relatively quiet on the road. If I get 35K miles out of them, I will be very happy, and they will be on my truck again when these wear out...
ATC Crazy, sorry to tell you your not going to get 35K miles out of them....
More like 45K miles. I have some friends running the exact same tire and one of them has 30K on his with plenty left. I also used to work at a firestone dealer, and people would come in with 55K miles on a set.
