For an engineering class I am taking, we are assigned the problem of designing a new tool...later this year we will actually be making a prototype of this tool. My question, what kinds of tools do you guys think would be a good idea? What is something that could be created to ease the everyday life? They say there's power in numbers, hopefully more creativity as well.
Speaking of bolt retrievers. I'd like an electro-magnetic retriever. I like the magnetic retriever on the telescopic pole I have now, but I hate the fact that it sticks to everything on the way down to the area where I lost the piece. I'd be great if I could stick it down there, then turn on the magnet and retrieve the lost piece. I don't seem to have a problem with the magnet sticking to everything on the way back out. Just remember who's idea it was.
how about a left handed pair of pliers or a variable speed claw hammer sorry bout that. i currently have a set of screw drivers (flat head) that hold the screw by flaring out at the end. I was wondering if there was a similar design for phillips screws? i work on some computerised stuff so magnetising them is out of the question.
I have an assortment of clip leads I have made for various projects that involved tracing wires. I have always thought that a tool like a tape measure that would dispense a wire with a clip lead from one end and have a second wire with a probe or clip lead on the other and an indicator light on the tool body to indicate continuity would be a handy tool.
How about a HOME Owned version of a moling machine for utility installs?
You know, So I can run a Cable TV cable or Water or Gas line to the garage from the house.
Or an electrical line to a flower garden to install lighting so I don't dig a trench

Dennis, that tool was invented eons ago. it is called a son, with a shovel.

Craftsman used to have one that had little claws that held the screw on the end of a Phillips driver, -didn't work worth diddly.
