1992 Explorer Check Engine Light
Starts fine, runs, drives, shifts good. Until.....it warms up real good. Once the engine is up to hot running temp, the 'check engine' light comes on and it knocks on acceleration. Let it sit for a while, light goes out, runs fine, no knocking. Heat it up again, light on, knocks (pings) during acceleration.
Closest Ford dealer with a diagnostic machine for a '92 is 25 miles away and costs $75 just for the test.
I am thinking it is some sensor or something since everything works fine. Oil, radiator, trans, are all clean and full. Wires all look good, new air filter.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Grab a Haynes manual and check the codes yourself. All it takes, really, is a paperclip and/or a analog multimeter and the two probes that come with it.
One of these forums, either this one or the Ranger one, has the procedure for code checking on Pre-95 trucks.
