Did the 351/400M engines use a small or bigblock bolt pattern for the tranny?
The reason I'm wondering is that my truck is getting a 302 sometime in the near future, and I've got a 4spd O/d tranny off of a '79 351M that I'd like to use.
Any ideas?

Nothing, and I mean nothing, stirs the soul, saying I'm a bad **** like lettin'em rip with a window shaking, fuel gulpin, carbon monoxide belchin, attention gettin, V-oh my LORD!-8!
Thanks... I guess I'll convert both to automatics and buy another c4 then.
Thanks!

if you are going to buy a transmission for the small block, why not get an AOD? it is the same size package as the C4 but you get the 4th (overdrive) gear. There is no wiring or vacuum to hook up. Just make sure the kickdown is adjusted properly and you are all set.
I've actually driven both, and like the c4 better...

Andrew- I'm shocked that you would even consider an automatic transmission. They are only made available for cripples and amputees. There is NO excuse for any able bodied man to have one. That said, the only 351M400s to use the small block bell pattern were the first few months of production of the 400 in 1974, in LTDs. The truck engines all had the bigger bell. BUT the pattern on the back of the clutch housing has been the same, 8 1/2 by 6 1/4, from 1966 to 1985. So get yourself a 302 or 351C 0r W or 300-6 clutch housing and a flywheel for your year of 302 and run that fourspped overdrive manual. If you have one of the before mentioned physical problems, run the auto tranny and ship that OD four speed to me, my truck needs it. DF
Before you posted, I would have sent it for the shipping cost... Ya' just had to open your big mouth huh?! You can have the granny tranny if you want it.
Thanks for the info!
