How many of you have upgraded your exhaust? I have an 02 Ranger Edge 3.0. I want the little engine to breath a little better since i plan on put an intake in also. Do yall notice a power increase afterwards? Also what brands has anyone used. I don't want it to be loud or anything. I hate that ricer sound you get when people dual out or gut cat on a 4 banger. Also any MPG gains??Thanks
The real bottle neck on these ranger motors are the exhaust manifolds, a catback may net you a couple at best, and your not gonna feel a couple of hp unless your a dyno ha ha. For any real performance gain from the exhaust, you'll need headers, a free flowing cat, and a catback. The gains will be more in the topend, but least there will be some. get an underdrive pulley, an intake, then tune it in with a bama chips programer. The bama programer is the biggest bang for the buck on these engines, with, or with out any other mods. One of our members has an on line store that sells the bama, headers, and udp plus much more at good prices. www.jusnesmodified.com
Thanks for the link Wendell!! I would love to help anywhere I can. On a 3.0, a cat back system on an other wise stock truck would not do much but get you some sound, which honestly is the reason most people get it anyway. A pulley will help, and is cheap enough to justify. and the BamaChips programmer is definately a great bang for the buck!
together they may help some, but i wouldnt expect a miracle. For the 3.0 I like the MAC intake, its pretty cheap and the quality is impressive! check it out!
I just finished putting on a MAC air-intake, throttle body spacer, mass airflow sensor, JBA headers, and a flow master 50. I did not want the bumble bee sound of the 40 series. The truck runs great and it really woke the truck up. The 3.0 will run if you let it breathe. BUT, its still a small 6 banger so dont expect some huge difference. The truck really comes alive over 3800 RPM's and actually pulls through the gears and I can even spin the tires if the RPM's are right. (its an auto trans) These upgrades did not do anything for the low end but the difference is on the top end. I will post all my upgrades and prices pretty soon. I know we have talked about this before. I am happy with what I did. The only thing that did not help much was the Jet module. (you guys told me so) I just did not see a big diff with that. The MAC air intake is cheaper than most and they claim a little bit more HP boost than the other guys.
That all sounds about right. I really like the MAC intake for rangers, its our most popular one. The TB spacer is not something i would waste my money on, these trucks already have a long runner intake manifold, spacing it another inch wont do anything for power or fuel mileage. And the mass air meters are getting harder and harder to find. Granatelli stopped making them because the calibrations were not staying steady, ive heard that Pro-M either stopped or will be stopping for the same reason.
ondgas, I told you about those generic jet chip, you really want to see your mods come alive, get that bama tunner, fortunatlly Bob Jusnes as an online ford performance truck store, and he running a real good buy on bama programers right now, check it out at www.junesmodified,com. You won't believe the difference between jet, and bama.
I forgot to mention that Bob also has a good price on an underdrive pulley for your 3.0, it's good for a real bump in the hp, unlike the spacer, but spacers do work on some applications, I've tried before as well. they worked on jeep inline motors, but nothing on my fords, check out that bama, you can thank me later ha ha !!
