I had some of my NC pals over sat, and we had a work day on out projects. We fixed leaking power steering gears, hot radiators and my blue 66 got some adjustments. We changed the meatering valve springs in the 1406, and tonight I turned the screw in on the modulator another 3-4 rounds and am more happy with the performance of that truck than since I did the conversion, to the new engine and C6.
One of the guys drove his dually over and trailered his project (mid 70s) in to show off. He has a 460 drilled out to 580 heavily warmed, headers with 3" to the front of the 16" wide rear tires. Man you get the warmies just listening to that big horse hit. He had Flowmaster, I think he said street tamers, God what an awesome sound.
It has been a great weekend.

Sounds like a fun time John. I have just one question....did you treat them to some of your fine BBQ?

Okay, I'll bite on this one. What made you decide to change the metering valve springs in the Edelbrock? Your shift speeds must have been way too low for you to go 3 plus turns on the modulator valve, right?
Lee you don't have to bite my friend just jump in here anytime. The springs were changed because the carb was running too lean. This was done while I was gathering the meat for the burbers, and was told about it when I returned and it was buttoned up and needed to be road tested.
You are right on the money with the jack rabbit shifting. If you would stand on it, it would shift into second and bog the engine. After about 6 total turns in, when I stand on it it will shift at 4200 rpms, and that is enough for me.
The 2.75 rear gear is holding it back some but I wanted a cruser not a dragster. I had the truck out yesterday and it is running the best since the install of the new engine and C6. It no longer sucks.
Thanks for the interest.

Interesting story. It sounds like the only thing left to do is to get you to set the timing of that beast with your vacuum gauge, as opposed to the damper marks, as see if you can awaken a few more horses. Maybe, maybe not but well worth the effort.
Lee, We backed the timing down from 14º to 12º because the Unilite has one hell of a curve. I think we have it at about peak now with the setup that is in there.
