My wife and I need a new mattress, We have a queen size that we bought at a discount place and its not exactly "queen size"... The sheets dont stay tight, and its a little small.
There are litteraly 200 mattress stores withen a 30 mile radius of us. I know nothing about this industry
Jake it depends on how much you want to spend and what your conditions are? ME I have a bad back and need a very firm mattress. I have l bought a temperpedic pad for the mattress I have now and it helps. I went looking at the real deal Temperpedic beds. Yikes !!!! The queen size I was looking at was over $3000.00 for a queen set adjustable around $2000 without the adjustable. My parents just bought a new sealy very firm mattress for around $1600 delivered sunday morning.
Remember Jake a mattress bought cheap usually has reasons why the price is so low.
I got a King Coil about 5 years ago and it has been good. They are the only ones approved by the Chiropractic Association.. We tried a simmons years ago, but returned it within days. When we were on it it felt like we were tilting inward..
We went with a California King years ago, and love it. Darned thing is so big all three kids have slept on it wheh they were little. Oh yeah, it is a Sealy, and we have it on a waterbed frame. Works great if you like a firm mattress (we do).
I still have a water bed and love it even after 27 years...
Bought it in an old counter-culture paraphernalia shop.
I have replaced the mattress twice tho. Probably coming up due again soon.
I would just find something comfortable in the midpriced range. Virtually every company that covers innersprings gets the majority of their innerspings from Leggett & Platt incorporated. Leggetts competitors buy their machinery to produce their innersprings from companies owned by leggett & Platt. Everyone that covers springs get the same springs with the exception of serta who gets a proprietary spring produced only by Leggett. Serta also buys the normal lines of springs too. I recommend going with a pillowtop mattress. Do not get the no flip kind they are junk. Also make sure whatever set you buy includes a real boxspring. Alot of the cheaper sets come with a covered wood frame with no steel beams or springs they are crap. It is easy to tell the difference in the cheap all wood frames and the real boxsprings. Just run your hand with a little pressure across the top of the boxspring and if it feels smooth you do not want it.
All that being said I own a Serta Majesty Queen set and I have been very happy with it.
We have had a California King Simmons Beautyrest pillow top mattress for about 7 years. It still firm and very comfortable. I put a Sealy Posturepedic pillow top twin mattress in our Weekend Warrior trailer in May and it's also very comfortable. They seem equally comfortable to us.
We have a Select Comfort sleep number bed and love it. It can be adjusted to suit just about anyone. King size pillow-top was just under $2000 with the foundation, delivered, set up and old mattress and box springs removed.
I have a select comfort and love it. It is the best sleep you can buy and another nice feature is that when/if you travel you can pump up the pressure to a rock to simulate the hotel beds.
They cost a little more, but what is a good night sleep worth? Also if something goes wrong you can change that part of the bed and not have to buy a whole new bed again.
