E4OD issues
Truck is a '92 F-250 LD 4x4, 302/E4OD/3.55 rear end. VERY high gearing.
Anyway, a couple weeks ago I noticed the truck hesitating a little at low RPMs while driving, like it was bucking or lugging a bit. Downshift to higher RPM's, no more shudder. It's very slowly been getting worse. Truck will buck lightly under 2000 rpm in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. Above 2000 rpm it gets better, and it will accelerate without slippage in all gears. This is all with no load. With some weight in the bed, no slipping and a little less shudder. I have noticed that it only happens when the transmission is warm-- first few miles it drives normal. It shifts fine through all gears, fluid level is ok, fluid is fairly new and the truck has an aftermarket tranny cooler.
Any thoughts? It seems a little like what people have described as the torque convertor dying, but then again the transmission doesn't slip. It still pulls real well under hard acceleration. This basically only happens when cruising at low rpm or under light, low rpm acceleration.
I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with the motor -- fuel filter is new, recent plugs/wires, it's always run well and still pulls strong and smooth.
Thanks...
