Interior light problem

Every time I open and close any door in my truck, the interior lights stay on for an extended period of time before turning off. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I just bought a 2000 X and I have found that if I don't close the rear lift gate good, the door switch isn't fully closed and the truck thinks there is a door open. If I slam it pretty good, the lights go out immidiately (assuming all the other doors are cosed). I haven't found the switch for the rear lift gate yet. When I do, I'm sure its just an adjustment.

Maybe your's is doing the same?

If your lights are staying on until the automatic battery cut off that shuts anything down that draws power then chances are you have a sticky switch or a bad switch
if its sticky you can spray a lubricant right into the door latch I've fixed 3 of my doors this way.the 4th one I needed a new switch.

mine is doing the same thing. Last nite, I hosed down the latches on the rear hatch
w/ WD40 to no avail. However, I've found that if I firmly push the rear hatch while keeping my hand on the hatch, it'll work everytime. But if I let go of my hand when I slam it, eventho I slam it harder than the other method, the lights will almost always stay on. YMMV. Good luck.

I too sprayed mine down with WD-40. I also moved the latch back and forth while holding up the hatch handle and sprayed it again. It works pretty good for the time being. I think what ever crud is in there is only going to gum up again over time (especially after WD-40). I think the permanent solution are new latches or a thorough cleaning.

Mine has done it a couple times, needing the latch units lubed. I drown them with WD-40 as mentioned, then I blow it out with compressed air. Do that a few times, haven't had to do it for quite a while. And I drive 16 miles of dirt road, 3-5 times a week.
