I am thinking of doing the mbrp turbo back system with no cat and possibly no muffler.
i have mine registered under my company name, so i never take it through inspection, and NJ doesn't check diesel emissions anyways. do they make a muffler delete pipe that can easily swap back in the muffler if i ever need it?
i've never installed a new muffler system before, but i know my way around fixing most of the basic stuff on vehicles like shocks, brakes, alternators.
am I crazy to try and do this without a lift and help from a muffler shop?
the cost of the 304 stainless is a lot more, but is anyone getting the 409 systems and if so, how is it holding up. i know the 304 is better and has the lifetime warrenty.
It seems crazy to replace the brand new system in my new truck but i'd like to have a better sound and better fuel mileage, along with a tuner that i might purchase. not sure which one of those is best either.
how long do these muffler systems that are turbo back, take to install? any special tools needed? i'd be doing this without a lift, just on the ground, blacktop driveway.
Less backpressure ="excess stress on the turbo shaft" huh? interesting.....If that's the case there should be thousands of Stressed out turbo shafts.....
Talked with my old service manager, and the dealer where I go now and both had similar responses. Exhaust OK (even turbo back), but one said intake would definitely void the warrant, and the other said it depended on if the claim was reviewed (i.e. out of the ordinary). So, exhaust is a go and probably just change out air filter to high flow and the SCT of course :O
If you have basic hand tools it's easy. You don't need it but it makes it much easier if you have a sawsall and an 8 inch metal blade. Cut the down pipe, cut after the muffler and remove the stock stuff in three easy pieces. WD40 is good to lube the rubber mounts for easy removal too!
i have two sawsalls, on corded, one cordless. i run/own a construction company so any power tools. i own just about all of them. i have metal blades all the way up to 12 inches long for the sawsall.
thanks for the info.
i think i'll make this a summer project.
another question, can i just do the exhaust and expect to see some mpg gain, without doign the airbox delete? i dont' want to mess with that until later on.
if at all.
if it's not going to make a difference, then i might just stick with the stock system and maybe do just a cat delete or muffler delete. keeping the down pipe the same
Mark, need to know if you also sell turbos for the 2003 6.0. Definitely interested in MBRP exhaust system, stage 2 oil system, and any mpg or torque performance package. My truck is out of warranty and need to keep it running. I bought a diesel for the longevity of the engine. Need to know if you also carry some of the known problem sensors or are they dealer items?
The great thing about diesels is the fact that the MPG does not decrease drasticaly with horsepower and torque increases like the gas engines do. What do you think the MPG are on a Mustang Cobra pushing almost 400 hp and 400 ft lbs of torque 10, 12 MPG at the most? Where as you have a diesel pushing 400hp and 400ft lbs of torque it will still get 16, 17, 18 MPG. By far the best relatively inexpensive mods are an intake and exhaust combo. If it is a warranty issue then you're in a pickle.
not to alter the subject here, but a mechanic friend of mine, with a few 6.0 stockers has told me not to delete my cat or muffler, and that i'd get some error code showing up if i delete the cat on my 06 6.0l if i do a turbo back system with cat delete.
anyone have this code/error showing up?
