Replacing drive gear
I've got a 4spd from an '84 F250, an by my count it's got a 6T drive gear. It's in my '66 F100 with 235/75/15 tires and 3.70 axle gears.
According to the calculators I need a 14T speedo gear, but in testing, it seems I need a higher-tooth gear. With a 17T, ~85 = 55. With a 21T ~70 = 55. I could use a 23T to get it within ~5mph, but the better idea would be to switch the drive gear to a 7 or 8.
So the question is can I do that with this tranny? Here's the tag:
