400 running rough?

400 running rough?
idles rough,when reving motor obove 3k breaks up bad has a slight sputter at steady speeds and backfires after hammering on-checked cap,rotor,wires,plugs,carb,timing-i'm needing valve job or timing chain-haven't really looked into because have another motor but curious?

Hey man, just a thought, but thats what mine did after I put an el cheapo bigger cam in my 400 without also upgrading the springs, it wiped several lobes almost completely off the camshaft. I couldnt believe my eyes, on 2 of them you couldnt even tell there were supposed to be lobes on it. In case your engine is a newer one or had a recent cam change, Dave
