ok, i know this gas milage thing has probaly been beaten to death. but i must ask. i have owned a a 7.3 and a 6.0(gallery) but both f-250's, never an excursion. now its time to get the wife to go diesel. so.... just wondering what mpg you guys are seeing? with the 7.3 and 6.0
thanks alot
'05 6.0 Limited 4X4. 11.4 (wife driving) to 13.5 (me driving) around town. Best of 16.5 on highway. Only 13K miles. Hoping it gets better as it breaks in. I will eventually do some mods. That is figuring by hand but usually wihin a .10 of the computer.
I think Excursions get slightly less mpg (on the average) than F-250s with same 6.0 / 7.3L PSD. The Excursion is heavier (by about 500 lb), but may be slightly more aerodynamic. This may mean that city mpg will be slightly less whereas highway mpg may be slightly higher.
All of this is just a guess, but I've seen lots of posts on F-250 mpg and Excursion mpg and see only slight differences.
forest, you pretty much took the thoughts right out of my head. thanks again guys, the wife says she wants a red 2001 just like my old f-250 (gallery), the hunt begins!!
My '03 gets about 13.8 - 14.5 mpg (hand calculated) in town. 17 - 19 mpg on the highway at 75 mph - 65 mph. 90K miles on it now, so don't think things are going to change much.
We also tow a big travel trailer (9000 lb) and get about 10 - 11 mpg at 65 mph.

Sorry to get off topic but I don't know about calling the excursion "heavier"... I've read some of the f250's door jam stickers and to my suprise, some of them are hitting the 10,000 pounds mark. WOW, I thought that was odd but I guess its mostly weight from the suspension.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Those stickers are the GVWR rating, not the weight of the vehicle. My '04 F350 weighed less on a scale than my Excursion. The GVWR is the max a vehicle can weigh with its payload.
its cool caddy, all of my friends think the vehicle weight is on the door also! plus there are probaly alot of people who read this thread and agreed with u, then had to bite there tounge when jhooch seet it strait.
02 7.3 ltd eb-stock--> we have done 20 on the highway (usually around 18.3) and mixed driving 50% highway/50% city)average around 16.4. Just filled my VW Golf TDi-52.3 MPG-over 700 miles on it's little tank! How's that?
