look at this thread to get you started, it explains alot of the common mods we talk about here, and also service info. i would start out by purchasing a Helm CD manual off the internet somewhere, and if you have any more questions about service we can explain or walk you through it.
the trapezoidal shaped connector under the gear shifter/steering column is the OBD II diagnostic code reader point. any OBD II code reader will pull codes, but not necesarily all of them. alot of people here have Autoenginuity software and i hear it's great.
Thanks. This 01 PS is the same size and has a similal looking oil cooler as my 89 IDI, but other than that it looks quite different. And then there are the miles of wireing. I am an electronic engineer and it is still a bit overwhelming.
The trans looks mostly like an E4OD, but is it actually a 4R100?
What years are the generation of which an 01 Econoline is a part? I need a pair of 10 leaf rear springs and all the sources I have stop at 2000.

I went to Helm. You can spend a lot of money there. I'll need to be selective.

when you "Connect" instead of going to the enhanced powertrain module log into the GEM, ABS, Airbag/SRS, or any of the other items in the drop box, different things you can do with each.
That's correct. The 4R100 is basically an E4OD that is electronically controlled. The internals, case, etc, are pretty much the same.
The E4OD is also electronic. I put one behind the 460 in my 84 E350, and another behind the 7.3 IDI I installed in place of the 460. I used a Baumann controller. It provides for two switchable profiles. The shift points as a function of throttle position are programable. In a car they might be street\strip. I call mine moutain\flat land. The primary difference in my setup is, in the mountains I have the converter lock in 2, 3 & OD. On the flat I only have it lock in OD. The cruise control buttons can be used as "paddle shifters". The OD on\off switch can be a toggle push button - like Ford did it - or an actual on\off switch, which I find more definitive.
Until I can get some reference material I hope you can help me with some of the basics.
Brake rotor listings indicate I could have two or four wheel brake control. There is a wire to each front caliper, no wire to the rear calipers, but a wire to the differential housing. What is going on here?
It sounds as if you have 4 wheel ABS. Each front wheel will have a sensor in the hub, but the rear only has the one in the diff housing, not on each hub.
I got the AE package. When I placed the order I missed the part where to be of much use on a diesel you need the Ford enhancement. I got that activated.
I got one CD and one DVD off Ebay. Best I can determine it is "drive-by-wire", and nothing happens that isn't controlled by the PCM. And it took me about two hours of searching the info to find the location of the PCM.
It says the first step of removing the instrument cluster is to remove the light switch ****. It doesn't say how. On top of the switch is a plunger that is in contact with the shaft, but I have not been able to get the shaft out. What's the trick?
Oh, the door locks, someone had cut the wire under the switch panel on the drivers door. I spliced it, they work. I wonder if something similar was done to the cruise control. Is there some master test point location?
