Hard to start

I was trying to start my 2000 Ford Explorer with 4.0 SOHC 6 cyl and had the hardest time this morning. It had sat up only a couple of days and it was sprinkling rain this morning but it was hard to get started - ran fine one I got it to keep running. Would start and then quit. Any ideas.

How many miles are on it, and have the ignition wires ever been replaced?

Mileage is 72500 and I'm sure wires have not been replaced.

Thanks and with the fact of sounding as unknowledgeable as I am what is the "AIC"?

AIC, Air Input Control valve, lays on the intake manifold to regulate the idle, cylindrical in shape with a 2 bolt flange and an electrical connection. Take it off and clean the inside with throttle body cleaner
