As most of you know I had put a 4" lift on my 2000 XLT Superduty....Since the kit didn;t come with a dro pitman arm, the steering wheel was upside-down after the install, I tried many ways to compensate ( i.e. pulling the steering shaft from the steering gearbox input shaft, and same with the steering wheel....etc etc etc...
Anyways, after removing the airbag package, and re-installing it, now I have no horn, no cruise control, and the airbag light remains on after the the vehicle is started... I removed the airbag package from the steering wheel again to see if maybe I knocked a wire off or something...but everything seems to be in order...I also checked fuses and the ones for cruise, horn, and aibag seem to be fine...
Anyone else have this happen to them, and also have a solution to the problem?

p.s. I installed a 4" drop pitman arm and that correced the prob of the upside-down steering wheel! shoulda done tha to begin with , eh? lol
Ford calls the part a slide switch, but most people call it the clock spring. Basically what it is, is a ribbon cable like on a printer head. It wraps around the steering column and connects the steering wheel to the steering column electrically so your "stuff" will work. If your "stuff" is not working either one of two things has happened. You for got to plug it in or the ribbon connector needs replacing. But check all places where it plugs in. There should be a connector that connects to the steering wheel and one at the bottom of the column. Don't know exactly where they are located but leaving this unplugged will cause the same problem. One last point If you pulled the wheel and did not have the wheel centered (pitman arm to gearbox index on the dots) you might have broken the ribbon connector because it does have a limit travel and off center you would have possibly pulled too far in one direction. One of these will probably be your problem, look and you will find it. best of luck and keep us informed on the fix. Jim

I haven't had a chance to take it apart and look at it yet, but when the steering shaft was out of the steering box input shaft I gave it a couple spins in either direction to make sure I had it centered (if there is such a thing) Anyways, with a couple spins all the way to the left I could feel it bind up a bit...maybe breaking slide switch (I'm not real bright...lol) Maybe it just came unplugged? Anyways...just in case its broken, do you know what I'm looking at price-wise to replace it? And is it a pain-in-the-neck to replace?

Scott I think you broke the clock spring as most call it, Since you had the wheel off you were almost to the part. It will be important to have the steering gear centered and check the new part will go to both extremes w/o pulling on the ribbon connector. I think the part is in the $50 or so range at the dealer. Actually, I never removed the steering wheel itself...I could tell right away by looking at it that there was only one way the wheel could be mounted so I never bothered to remove it....the only part I did remove was the airbag and horn assembly?
