does any one have a solution to the stiff ride of the 95 f-350 diesel? I only have two leaf springs up front and I dont under stand why it is so stiff?
Have you owned this F350 long? Don't forget that this is a heavy duty vehicle. (please don't take that the wrong way) The ride should be somewhat stiff but responsive. Those two front leaf's are the only thing supporting several tons of weight. But like toddyw said, take a look at the shocks, they are the first defense between the bumps and your butt.
I have noticed that the pre 99 trucks ride harder...
My 2000 has a nice ride, but the shocks can make a difference. I have the Rancho RS9000 adjustable shocks because I carry a large slide-in camper. When the camper is loaded, I set the rear shocks to max dampening and this really helps minimize sway. If I leave them set at max once the camper is unlaoded, the ride is very harsh. So I just turn them down and the ride is much better.
The other thing that's easy to change is tire pressure. Too many people think you need to run the pressure that's listed on the door jamb. Those pressures are set based on a truck that's fully loaded to it's weight limit. If you are driving around with no load most of the time (like me), then you have way too much pressure in your tires and consequently the ride will be too stiff, you'll have less traction and your tires will wear unevenly. So stop by some scales and get individual weights for each axle. Then check a tire inflation table (www.trucktires.com) to see what pressure to run.
I'm w/ everybody else here. Check your shocks for leaking fluid and for their responsiveness. If there original, I'd probably change them for Rancho 9000's or Bilstein's. BUT, don't expect it to ride like a car or even like a half ton truck. IT'S A ONE TON TRUCK. It's going to be stiff but it shouldn't be bone-jarring. Good Luck!!
Thanks guys, I just got new tires and i went with one load rang lower and the shocks are toast, like half way rusted through so im sure that will help alot and I have lowered the tire pressure it was at 40-60.
