Is it possible to swap the whole steering column from a late 70s model ford into my 66?I plan on doing a power steering and power brake conversion and would like like to have the steering wheel moved back a few inches for a little more stomach room in the truck. Also.....how difficult is it to move the gas tank from behind the seat to an in between the frame rail tank? One more question......i am not sure if my motor has had hardened valves put in it,will it hurt the motor if it does have hardened valves and i put a lead additive into the gas?or is there a way to tell if it has hardened valves.....thanks alot guy, without this forum, the truck would never get together.
Chris, You sure can, the only problem is the columns are the same length from the floor to the horn button. If you can find a 78 or 79 XLT Lariat and get a tilt wheel you may have a litle more room. I have a 76 column and wheel in my 66, and the 76 wheel is not quite as offset as the 66.
The gas tank issue has been batted around a lot here. Finding a between the rails tank is difficult. The early Mustang gas tanks can be placed between modified rails but must be filled from the bed or oother created source.
I wouldn't worry about the valves too much, the engine will hang for a while on unleaded gas. There has been some failures, but there a lot of old trucks still running with the old valves.

In the cool still quiet of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
So the 240 six should be ok with unleaded gas?I dont plan on saving the motor (V-8 is going in it) so it will just be temporary. Would it be possible to get and aftermarket tank that mounted beteen the framerails?Once again,I appreciate all of your help,it is awesome that yer willing to help a kid out, lol.
I have a pair of steel saddle tanks on my 66 along with the tank behind the seat. You should be able to find a saddle tank that would work on your truck. I think there is a pair of plastic saddle tanks on the classifieds on this site. hope this helps
