Next week I want to install a front clip from an 89
Lincoln Town Car in my 64. Does anyone have some
"friendly" advice? I've never done something like this
before but I enjoy fabricating. Wish me luck! Tim.

There is nothing in the "FTE rules" that says that can't be discussed. I can understand you guys frowning on "other brand" conversions, but what's wrong with this? We might disagree on the purpose and final outcome, but that's our own personal opinions which can be discussed freely too. Right?
Much better off selling the 64 and getting a 65 or newer, if you want to get rid of that straight axle ride. Have to admit, I would not think of doing that sort of conversion, but to each their own....
John, I'm keeping it ALL Ford, Just want to modernize it!
Sorry if I offended anyone but I know I read about this
sort of thing in here before. Oh well, bye for now, Tim.

Don't be scared by Jowilker. He is very helpful on these old trucks but he only sees stock original. His underwear are even from Dearborn and are Ford blue! A front clip is a MAJOR undertaking. You will actually cut off the at about the firewall and replace everything from there out. It takes lots of fabrication and engineering. Not only do you have figure out where to put the front suspension, you also have to mate the front of your truck frame back on so that you have a place to mount the sheetmetal. Have you considered any other front suspensions like the Mustang II or the Volare' type? There are a couple fellows on the Yahoo club site. It is listed under fordtrucks61-66.
Hey Man Just find something that has no integerty to start with, if you want to put real Ford family parts on, like a goat or something. This post would be good for Gen. Con.
This is a real truck forum used for real truck issues, not for defaming an American classic, that's all.

In the cool still quiet of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
Well, I guess i am not going down very well !! I am taking a 1966 ford 250 crew cab yea crew cab 4 door and puttin on a f-550 power stroke running suspension . cut firewall and put F250 cab on with F350 bed . it aligns up pretty good not a lot of modifying primarely firewall ,Hope this is all ford with the convience of a new Ford and the appearance of a Classic .Love my Ford
GO FOR IT DUDE. Don't let some body elses opinion of what should or shouldn't be done to YOUR truck get in the way of doing what you want with it. Right now this very minute my 61 unibody is in the driveway with a Volare front clip under it. I'm checking clearences and marking where brackets and holes must go to make it a bolt in operation. I'm taking lots of pictures to share. It's also getting a 302 and 5spd. It should come out about 2"-3" lower than stock but not slammed I still need it to be a truck.Good luck and keep us posted right here.
Thanks for the encouragement, guys! It's pretty rare to see
a 61-66 heavily modified like what we're doing and it's nice
to here something positive about it! Jack, Richard your trucks
sound GREAT and wish I could see them someday! Thanks, Tim.

I strongly advocate "clipping". Especially the older trucks with straight front axle and leaf springs. In one step you get a nice place to put the engine, disk brakes, power steering, independent suspension, sway bar and 40 years of engineering advances. Using the big Fords or Lincoln's for donors is a great idea. Clipping is not for amateurs. Grafting the newer frame clip to the old truck frame is tricky. You will need advance welding and fabrication skills and if you don't have these find them before you start this project. Cut off the old clip and graft on the new. Some inner fender modifications and adding an extension to support the radiator core support and front bumper is about all there is to it. Keep extensive photo records and let us see the pics. You will get more than 4 inches drop at the bumper. Be sure to center the the wheels in the fender opening or it will look funny.

Thanks William. I think I have the skills ( I hope!).
I try to remember to take more pictures but sometimes
I get carried away and forget all about it! Bye for now.

Mike, I'm gonna make it fit!!! Seriously, it looks
like it'll be tight, widthwise, but it should work.
Once I get this clip in there! Talk to you later.

I bought a rolling chassis for my F-100 that included a full size LDT front cross member. That gave me power steering, coil springs, disc brakes, sta bar, coil springs and did I mention power steering. Yea! Although it is not quite back on the road, I am looking forward to completing the body and powertrain swap I have been working on. The welding shop that did the frame sand blasted and painted the frame and so far everything lines up perfectly between the cab and front fenders.
