what is your weather like...myne will do the same thing if it is pretty cold out side ..its called "hunting" it is just trying to find the correct idle speed for that temp...
can you describe it as a "romp romp romp" noise? it is probably due to the fact that you run 15w-40 oil in a colder climate. due to the engine oil being thick when cold, it will not flow fast enough on startup by the pump into the high pressure oil system to stabilize the injectors. this gets worse as the oil ages. 5w-40 oil will fix this romping noise, and after so many miles, the sound will come back because the oil's additives wear out. i just changed my oil and the sound is gone again. the 5w-40 oil is thinner at startup and it flows better.
umm check ur cps sensor...it could be getting intermident signals..but get some more input form other guys on this forum tho....im new on here..im just telling you stuff that i have learned in school

Mine has never "cammed" as you call it. When it is really cold out, it will sometimes romp romp a few times but then a smooth idle and then on to the F16 jet whine until the truck is warm and the EBPV opens.
I don't think it has a chip . When it first started I would use the diesel additive and it would clear up . So I think something is getting stopped up .
