Diesel camming ?

When I first start up my truck it sounds like it has a cam in it. I have to keep giving it gas to make it smooth out . What is the problem ?

can you describe it as a "romp romp romp" noise? it is probably due to the fact that you run 15w-40 oil in a colder climate. due to the engine oil being thick when cold, it will not flow fast enough on startup by the pump into the high pressure oil system to stabilize the injectors. this gets worse as the oil ages. 5w-40 oil will fix this romping noise, and after so many miles, the sound will come back because the oil's additives wear out. i just changed my oil and the sound is gone again. the 5w-40 oil is thinner at startup and it flows better.

Mine has never "cammed" as you call it. When it is really cold out, it will sometimes romp romp a few times but then a smooth idle and then on to the F16 jet whine until the truck is warm and the EBPV opens.

What are your temps out during the condition?

are you running a chip, certain programming can cause it to sould like a cammed up gasser. My extreme lopes for a bit then smoothes out.

I don't think it has a chip . When it first started I would use the diesel additive and it would clear up . So I think something is getting stopped up .
