I have a problem. I have an 88 F-150 w/a very low geard manual tranny, but dont know which one it is. I dont even use 1st gear even thou it has one dead cyldr. Its only a four spd w/revers to the right and down. My other ? is that I may be geting my hands on a 460 to replace the 5.0 thats in it now but I would like to keep the four spd but I dont even kow if the bellhousing will fit. I have also herd of an eight spd spit-shift and would be interested to hear any info any one has on it. Thank you for taking your time to read and your help.
Joe
The 460 and the 302 share different bellhousing patterns. You would need to find a new bellhousing for that motor. Shouldn't be too hard to find at the junkyard.
The tranny could either be a T-18 or an NP 435. Both trannies are four speeds with a granny gear. If you crawl under the truck and look at the tranny, it will have "Borg Warner" cast into the driver's side if it's a T-18. There will probably be a round metal tag somewhere on it if it's an NP 435.
A gear vendors unit is what you're talking about in the last question. Search the axle forum here on FTE for more info - it's been talked about quite a bit before.

No problem Justin. Just let me know if I overstep my bounds.
BADCAR, yep, he was talking to you. If you PM Justin and ask him nicely, he may split your post off into a seperate thread. Or you could do it yourself by posting a new thread.
Generally speaking, threads are dedicated to one user's question/problem. If someone has a similar problem, a new thread is a good idea. If the problem is unrelated, then you definitely need a new thread.
If you look at the main forum page, there will be a button that says "New Topic". That's how you start a new thread.
