bed question

I started assembling the box all is going fairly well except the front header panel doesn't seem to fit right . The bed is an aftermarket type that was in pieces when I bought the truck , so I have no idea where it was purchased or if all the parts were bought from the same place . But here is the problem , the front crossmember is the O.E.M. that came on the truck from ford .I have it bolted down to the frame with the flange that has the holes facing up and into the bed . However the front header panel is setting about 1/2 inch higher than the bedsides did I over look something , was the head panel made too high ? Any thoughts guys ? I do have two differently stamped bed sides where the fenders bolt on , one has round holes for the fender bolts and the other has the square carriage bolt type hole, but that should have nothing to do with the front .

Try this, Bolt the angled part of the bed side up tight to the angled tips
of the front bed panel. The bottom flange of the bed side sits on top of the bed wood and the bottom flange of the front panel goes under the bed wood.
There should be about 3/4" difference. If this does not come out right you may have some bed parts from a F-250 or a different year truck. I hope this description makes sense. Ask more questions or dimensions if it will help.

the front cross member should be mounted so that the flange with the holes is facing forward, and the two bolts thru to the frame mount are inside the bed.

truckbuff , I think the bed panels are an earlier stamping of the production run because the front header panel and the bed sides have no holes punched in them for the three pieces to be bolted together . The angles are correct and the front panel will fit the bed sides . Am I understanding everyone right that the front crossmember is bolted to the frame with the v shapeds with the holes are facing the inside of the bed and the flange with the most holes is facing the cab? If this is correct, should the flange with the holes facing the cab be up or facing down? If I understand sdetweil correctly I think it is assembled right . I am doing this mock up without the wood floor in place, so what is the thickness of the boards because I will need to make spacers for the thickness I know I can make it work but it would really help if anybody has photos of their bed so I have a reference point .. thanks guys

Thumbs up

Perfect , thank you . I went out and mine went together just like that . I did have some scrap wood left over from a home deck project that I used as a spacer . I thought that it would get me some where in the ballpark for width .

also, on mine, I ordered the bed wood as part of the package.. they trimmed a small lip on the far outside wood pieced, so that it would fit under the bed side flange..

In my case, because of te airbagged rear, I have to raise the floor an inch to allow for the differential when the suspension is all the way down.. so my wood will be on TOP of the flange.. wish I had known they would do this, and I would have asked them not to.. so I'll have to get two new outside boards.
