I currently have a 2001 f-150 with a 4.2L V6. I am expierencing problems that I can not find. When I shift at regular points the truck "cuts out". I am inclined to think that the clutch is slipping but this is very intermittent. changed and cleaned various parts to include plugs and wires, EGR, TPS,.... Any idea's???
I want more power anyway, so if there is not a cheap fix for this problem I would rather put a 4.6L, especially considering that there is no real change in MPG. If this is the most viable option, will the stock tranny (5 speed manual) bolt up to the 4.6L? What other difficulties might I encounter with the engine swap?
The bellhousing bolt pattern is different. It would also include changing the whole underhood wiring harness and such to make it work. It's not a quick swap.
I would suspect either a dirty MAF or a failing IAC.
