Bedliner or Sprayed in Bedlining
Bedliner or Sprayed in Bedlining
Hi, just bought my 2006 F-150 Supercrew and am going to get a bedliner or have a sprayed in bedliner. What are your thoughts on which is best for usage that generally won't be caring dirt or stones (personal use versus business), more for protection and to keep the look of the bed clean.
I've researched and see comments on strenghts and "weaknesses" of either choice. If you have preference please feel free to suggest brand as well. BTW, has anyone done a spray it yourself?
Thanks.

Do NOT get a spray it yourself...from what I've heard it that is a sucky look and doesn't last. Actually it's a roll it on yourself. Go with either of the two commericial products. I've used both on two different trucks and I liked the Line-X over the Rhino. Same price but the Line-X is warrantied at ANY Line-X dealer. Rhino at only the one that did it. Line-X also goes on hot and gets into ALL the grooves and spaces. I think you'll see that most on this board prefer the Line-X.
Linex. They are great. Bedliners will rust out your bed in time. I personally have Linex in my 05 with a bed rug on it. Call me crazy. But it won't get scratched or dented and it's easy on my knees.
I would go with a spray in for sure. The brands that I would stick with would be Line-X or Rhino. They are both great and it depends on wich dealer is closer or what you prefer. When I get one it will probably be line X because thats what my closest dealer is.

I've had one in my 01 for 5 years and it still looks great. I use it to carry toys mostly but have had cut wood and oily machinery in it without any problems. If I get the 06 I'm looking at one of the first things I'm doing is removing the bedliner and replacing it with a bedrug.
Spray-ons require the paint in the bed to be sanded, as I understand it. The spray-on can be scraped off if not applied properly.
Bed liners will scrape the paint off where they contact the bed. You can put some camper shell tape at the contact points. A bedliner can crack and develop holes where water can seep through. Potential rust issues there. Also the bedliner is really rough on the knees- say you have to crawl across it to get to something at the back of the bed.

i like my line-x. I work my truck pretty good and it has stood up. I've always had drop-ins and never had a problem untell i got this truck. i had a piece of c-channel steel knock holes it the side and the warranty did'nt cover it. I thought it was time to upgraded to something alittle tougher. When i looked into buying another drop-in it was something like $300. so in my mind its the best $100 i spent, seeings how i was going to spend $300 anyway.
No doubt the bed needs to be prepped before sprayed. My suggestion is go to where you plan on getting it done at and watch how they prep and spray the trucks. look at the final result. if you can find another line-x shop watch them too. Then go to Rhino and do the same. then make you decision.

I have a drop in liner in mine. I do construction work and haul tools and engines around all the time, stuff that i know a spray in liner wouldnt hold up to. the drop ins will prevent your bed from getting dented from heavy objects, like, say, engines falling off the hoist into the bed. Its possible to get rust underneath, but just pop it out once a year or so and clean out underneath. I am all for drop in liners
Here is my two cents....I like the look of the Rhino better than Line X. I think it looks more like a spray in bed protector, where as the Line X looks more like grip tape. I have had both and both are a great product as far as durability. Definitly stick with either Rhino or Line X, nothing less. I also had my tool box rhinoed and it looks sweet and I get a lot of compliments, check out my gallery for picks. Good luck.
ive got a line-x and love the dam thing... i have throw so much crap in the back.. and i do mean THROWN! i through a 4 speed tranny from my spitfire in and it didnt mark, chip or gouge it.... getting my bumpers dont with linex in a couple of weeks to
i personally like the bed rug...thats just me...i dont throw anything back there that will screw anything up but i just like the look and feel of it...now if you can spend the money go with lin x and bed rug over it...more protection and feels good on the knees and the girlfriend definatley loves the bed rug if you plan on using it for other purposes
as far as rhino...they are pretty much extinct around here . the reputation fell off do to the fading and durability, they seem to be good but i heard something about they are sprayed on cold rather that companies like line x or permatec where it is sprayed on hot...im not really sure but ive heard nothing but horror stories about rhino lining compared to like x and permatec...just my .02

So the writing you have doenst say it wont happen, it says it will fix it when it does happen. The plastic ribbed liner spreads out the force of a sharp impact, something that a spray in liner doesnt do, or cant do as well. Drop an engine on its corner into a spray in liner, it will dent the bed. My brother in law does contruction, he has a line-x liner. Its not chipped or cut, but there are dents.
Youre right though, its something not worth arguing about really, it all depends on the kind of protection someone needs. I haul heavy metal things with sharp corners. Im not too concerned with the bed being scuffed, i care about big dents.
To each his own!

a guy we do business for hauls lawn equipment all day and other heavy equipment and said his last truck had a spray in and it got really dented and now he has a plasstic and it doesnt...sorry to burst your bubble exiled but a plastic drop in will hold up better that a spray in when it comes to dents
