Carb problems with 4.9L

Carb problems with 4.9L

My 86 F150 started giving me problems today... I popped the hood and there was gas pooring out around the carb The truck seems to run fine when the rpms are above 1500, probably because the a/f isn't too far off. But below 1500 the thing just stalls out. I think it is flooding out. Would a bad float in the carb cause these problems? I will be pulling the carb either way to try and figure out what the deal is.... any advice?

Likely the float or float valve is the problem since the float valve is apparently staying open for some reason. Float full of gasoline is a suspect.

Piffery1... I forgot I posted this in two sections. It turned out to be dirt in the valve seat. I cleaned that and the float bowl out... ol' red is running much better now
