Gauges

A couple of months ago I took my 2004 on a 3000 mile road trip pulling an 11,000 lb fifth wheel. When climbing a 6 percent grade at 6000 ft and 101 degrees my truck overheated with hardly any warning. To make a long story short I found that the preivous owner had diluted the anti-freeze mixture. I installed new Ford anti-freeze and it was ok but the gauge did go into hot a couple more times on the trip. I already have three gauges (piro, trans temp, and boost) but they gave me no warning so I plan to install a coolant temp gauge and oil temp gauge. After one hard climb I flung some water on the rear axle and it was steaming so I might also install an axle temp gauge. I noticed a wire coming out of the axle. What is it? Any ideas would be helpful on where to install the sensors for the oil and axle. I want to know what my truck is doing when under a big load.

that wire i believe is the VSS, vehicle speed sensor, atleast that's what it was on my 150. when you spin the rear tires in the snow your spedo will climb at the speed the tires are rotating. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure
