It's the classic test of manliness, the bench press. I haven't lifted since the beginning of June, but I'm starting back up on Monday (11th). Back in June my max was 220, now I doubt I can get 200. I still think that's decent for a 16 year old. So here's my question, how much can you bench?
well, a year ago before i got out the Navy and before i got cancer, i weighed 215lbs and could max bench 315lbs. along with run 1 1/2 mile under 9 mintues and do about 25 pullups too.
as soon as i recover fully i am starting back up also, in about a month i will start running again then hitting the pushups etc. going to buy my own equipment since i can't stand public gyms.
but i never considered the bench a test of manliness, i think if someone is well rounded in all aspects of athletic competition is much more of a test. i worked with poeplpe who could bench 315lbs ten times and yet Lord forbid they even make it around the track one time without losing their breathe and fainting (as did happened). or the just work on chest but can't get past 50 situps in 2 minutes.
Hmm that is a good question. Last time I tried maxing my bench press, I was in grade 9, weight 185 lbs, and I benched 230 pounds once. I dont know if I could do that now even lol, but Im gonna have to try that one of these days!
Im only 5years older than you but you make me feel like an old man cause now i can say ive been in your shoes. I remember "back in the high school days" when thats all that mattered was the bench press. Just like you said, it was indeed the test of manliness; no other work out mattered. Now a days i hardly ever bench. I really dont care anymore. When it comes to working out, all i really do is run, push up, sit ups and pull ups everyday. When it comes to weights ill do squats, military press, stuff like that.
