FTE does have an Electrical forum.

Specifically ....What kind of 12v relays ?

They are normally used when a large amount of current (amperage) is required to operate something when you have a smaller wire inthe switch circuitry.

Ie: The starter solenoid to crank the starter

Other uses:
Headlights
Air Conditioning systems
Wiper systems

anything that requires that larger amount of current.

a relay lets u contol high amperage with low amperage the high amps a starter would burn up a switch so they use a relay or solenoid to switch it on of off with a lower amp sourse

Besides using relays to switch large currents, you can also use them for simple logic work.

For example, you can use a switch to turn the relay on, and in turn the relay turns something off.

You can also use one switch to turn multiple relays on. So one switch can do more than one job. For example, you can use a 12 volt switch to turn on two relays. One relay switches 120 v, and the other relay can switch a 12 volt signal, all with one 12 volt switch.
